Utah Rep. Mia Love is set to join the ranks of Republicans who will be staying away from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next month, according to a report.
Instead, the freshman House representative will travel with a congressional delegation to Israel with other lawmakers and campaign for her re-election. In the process, she will give up her spot as a delegate and become the first of the 40-person delegation to back out.
I don’t see any upsides to it, Love said Friday, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. I don’t see how this benefits the state.
Love’s decision is a far cry from four years ago, when she was handed a prime-time speaking slot by the RNC in Tampa Bay. She also has not announced if she will vote for Trump in November, although she has ruled out casting her ballot for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
