President Barack Obama lives in a fantasy world and is trying to distract from the challenges Islamic terrorism poses. That was New Jersey governor Chris Christie’s takeaway from the president’s Sunday evening address from the Oval Office. In an exclusive interview with THE WEEKLY STANDARD Monday morning, the Republican blasted the president for running out the clock in the fight against terrorism.
Obama’s speech from the Oval Office, which aired shortly before Sunday Night Football, called for Congress to pass gun-control legislation in response to the ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California, last week.
To begin with, Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun. What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semi-automatic weapon? This is a matter of national security, Obama said.
